Pampering Pain
Beyonce sang Pretty Hurts. And it is true that getting pretty can’t hurt. The salon owner did a great job taking care of me today for my impromptu visit. She scrubbed and rubbed, massaged and manicured, plucked and enhanced my face. Waxing my brows, chin and upper lips were not as relaxing as having my feet soaking in the warm bath before my pedicure. Filing my nails and cleaning the cuticles were not as much fun as picking out nail polish colours.
I was reminded that there is pain in the process. There was a season when I refused and avoided pain in exchange for pleasure at all costs 😅😂 Why should enhancing my beauty be painful or pricey! Well, it is a New season and time to simply embrace the temporary pain or even little bleeding that sometimes comes with pampering or the process of building the life that I want.
God’s best for me, for us, will include hurtful and painful moments. Life is hard! Parenting is hard! Marriage is hard! Being a child can be as difficult as it is to be an adult! Having unwanted hair ripped from your body is hard! Then, we feel the tingle fingers and the massaging of the oil or see God’s glorious good works in full view and we can exhale. It was all worth it!
While sitting and being gently treated with care, I decided to do this more often. I will press on in doing the hard things to take better care of Tameeka– inside and out! I thank God that I was able to be seen and taken care of without an appointment today. I thank God for another opportunity to be reminded of the process of being beautified. I thought about Queen Esther and the other young women who went through beauty regimens in preparation to meet the King (book of Esther in the Holy Bible). There was a greater purpose to being made pretty. Having Jesus with us during the process and knowing that there is a greater purpose gives hope and assurance that although pretty hurts, it is rewarding!
