Black Boy Handsome

Dear son, you are a handsome black boy!

I consider my son to be a handsome boy. Deon and I tell him that he is handsome all the time -well Deon says that he is handsome like his daddy 🙂 which he is. I think he resembles both me and Deon.

This morning (Wednesday August 19th) as Timothy sat on his green little chair having his cheerios and milk with a peanut butter wheat sandwich, he looked up at a family picture and declared, “I don’t look handsome there!” We were posed in matching white tops and jeans. Timothy’s hair was unbraided and combed out.

Off course I reminded him of how handsome he looks especially since he was smiling and playing. Yet, he insisted that he was not handsome.

He then pointed to a picture of him on the refrigerator in a school art and said that he looked handsome here, with the short hair. I said, “oh you look handsome whether your hair is long or short, braided or cut.”

He disagreed. When I asked why, my toddler replied that he looks handsome here like a circle, and he used his hand to make circles around his head to show me round and around and around. I just smiled.

This picture shows Timothy with his hair out before his official at home hair cut. I cut his long twists and his daddy shaved off the rest as low as possible without the razor getting too close to his scalp.

This pictures below shows Timothy with his short haircut or as he would say, Handsome Timothy 🙂

I agree that everyone is beautiful in some way. And I may sound as a bias mama to say that my toddler is cute with his big round race and uneven round head, bright eyes and slight dimple once we get him to smile. I do believe that some humans are not as easy to look upon with admiration (OK, ugly) while others are more attractive. I know there are other three year old boys who are cuter than Timothy. I want him to grow up admiring the inner and outer beauty in everyone, starting with himself! Timothy is handsome (wild hair or crew cut).
