Did your parents teach you how to cook when you were a child?

We bake more often than we cook but now that he is getting taller and turning 7, I will be teaching Timothy how to cook. We started with pizza. When he was younger, his job was to add the toppings but now, making and kneading and rolling the dough are his new tasks!
We added rosemary to the pizza dough!! Oooh the smell is so good! Give it a try!
I ran away or made faces when my mom tried to teach me how to cook in Grenada. I really didn’t want the added chore 🤣or to get burned. Cooking looked dangerous! I am grateful that my mom, stepdad and cousin Lyndell did the cooking then my dad and aunt when I moved to the States.
Cooking was a necessity once I moved on my own to Texas at age 25 in 2012. Papa John’s Pizza became my friend!! Taking the bus to and from HEB supermarket was a challenge!! Then I discovered the Food network and I embraced how much can be done with food. I watched and learned and practiced, adding my own creative twists.
Today as a wife and mother, I still cook more out of necessity and my desire to prepare healthy meals than out of love for cooking. I may never love cooking. I enjoy being able to create a meal then watch my son enjoy it. Deon got most of my many trial and errors and since he is so critical, there is no joy in preparing anything for him 🤷🏾🤣 my cooking has evolved and I am much better at it. I still have much to learn but I will share what I know with Timothy.
At home, we know what’s in our food and that matters most! Look up the hash tag Meeka scratch kitchen on Instagram (@momeetamee #meekascratchkitchen) to see some of my creations. I am good at following recipes and adding my own flare sometimes 😀. Do you enjoy cooking?
