Growing gardens, starting small.
I love gardens. Flower gardens and fruit gardens. I like being around plants and trees. My grandmother had a garden with fruits and vegetables away from her house as well as flower plants and herbs around the house. Growing up with my maternal grandmother, Granny Vitalis, in Grenada was an extraordinary experience that I cherish dearly. My mother and stepfather also had a garden with roses and mango trees, golden apple and mandarins, soursop and other trees and plants. I enjoyed talking to the trees and plants, sometimes pretend they were my students 😅 The green fence got in trouble all the time 😅. Flora and furna, lush vegetation is all around us everywhere in Grenada. We had plants indoors, on the verandas, front steps and in the yard.
I am determined to keep trying to grow some of the fruits and herbs we eat as well as grow tall sunflowers! 🌻 I have had about 5 or so flower plants that died including two peace lilies 😔😞. Some may say that maybe I don’t have a ‘green thumb’ 🤣 and it may be true but I shall have a garden! And I also look forward to having a gardener and personal landscaper for my future earthly mansion. Deon used to grow plants in Grenada. I would tease him, calling him Farmer Brown 🤭 and I look forward to him bringing me plums and sugar apples when I visited Grenada. I was sure that once we got out own house in Texas, I would see farmer brown in action all the time. Well, that has not been the reality. I have moved on from that disappointment to just be grateful that the HOA sends him a warning when the front yard needs mowing!! We have tried and failed at maining the garden table he built to my specifications against his will ( he wanted it on the ground and I refuse to bend to the ground to attend to the garden). Well ever since that table broke down, Deon’s participation in my backyard garden dream has dwindled. I’m not mat at him. I wanted a garden but didn’t want to get my hands dirty! 🤣😅 Anyway, Deon later got some buckets and large plant box which he vanished and prepared about two years ago but we started off late like early July so nothing was planted.
This is a new year! I am willing to get my hands a little dirtier and my mind is made up to do what it takes to plant and nurture and grow some herbs, fruits, veggies and flowers! I am learning from online farmers and practicing the tips I see.
One tip is using banana peel as fertilizer.

No more trashing banana peels in this house!

My mother in law gave us some seeds and we planted some. We had peppers and okra, cucumber, cabbage and lettuce which the bunnies loved and ate on the side of our house. We still have some seeds left so we will use them again this Spring 😀. Timothy will join in the planting also. I had him help with watering the small indoor plants. He was gifted a chia pet last Christmas which we started to grow last week.

We will plant, water, pray, observe and learn and reap a great harvest or just enjoy the beauty of our garden in 2024!
