Playing in the Rain

Yesterday we enjoyed a play date/ mommy chat time at Hat Creek Burgers. While I had a meaningful conversation with another mom of one son, Timothy played with her son. They are best buddies.

Our dear friends Nicole and J.D make our day ever time we meet up. We listen, we share, we laugh, we learn, we discipline, we play and we pray. The boys do the same, mostly in play form learning from each other. Timothy is mostly the student as he is younger and J.D is a willing teacher, careful to explain things to his little buddy.

After we enjoyed our burgers and sandwiches with sweet potato fries, the boy eagerly ran out to play and we were as eager for them to go have fun. I like the indoor, outdoor play area that is connected to this fast food restaurant. Other fast food places I know have small play scapes inside. We chat, they play and we get to keep a close eye on them from the picnic benches. Then it happened. Rain!

Our phone showed rain and tornado watch alerts for our counties. Rain started drizzling and the boys came running– Timothy screaming mostly in surprise and excitement. The clouds were dark! The atmosphere outside changed. However, their focus was not on the dark clouds, they were happy to simply play in the rain. J.D. found a puddle and before we can say no, splash!! He jumped in the puddle! The carefree living of childhood is beautiful, although sometimes scary.

I admire and I want to live like Timothy and his favorite Buddy — like most children, not allowing the dark clouds above to change their attitude. I want to play in the rain, making the most of every day even under dark clouds!
