With eyes wide open

How do you celebrate holidays?

Haha! Everyday can be a holiday to me! For American holidays, sometimes we participate and assimilate 😀 Sometimes we just watch tv or enjoy sleeping in late in the afternoon or playing boardgames in the living room. It can also be a day or days to get caught up on emails and house chores.

As a homeschooler, I celebrate holidays by giving Timothy activities or showing him videos about the holiday. We  usually hanging out at our favorite place – home! I am not big on traditions. I respect them and I respect people’s choices to celebrate certain holidays the same way every year. I accept invites to celebrate with others too.

I celebrate holidays by being grateful for another day and journaling what we did as a family or how I enjoyed the day! Whatever or however you celebrate, give God thanks that it is another good day that He has made! And seek to understand why the holiday is a Holiday!

In Grenada, 🇬🇩a  holiday means vacation time off work or that you are traveling abroad (flying out of the island to America, Europe or some other places far from the Caribbean). For example, one would say, ‘I have 4 weeks holiday’ or  ‘Where you going for you holidays?’

I am learning that different countries and different cultures use the term holiday differently. I also had to learn that some holidays in North America are federal and some are not. As a Chase Bank teller, these were both some good times and not so special times. Sometimes we were off, other times it seemed like everyone else was off and having a good time while we were working. It was better when I worked for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Some Holidays were paid days off 🎉.
