Toddler meltdown Over books
I wanna talk with daddy! Drool and tears all over his cute face.
Here was my dear toddler at 2 years and 10 months old in total despair because I said let us organize his book shelf.
Here’s how it happened:
Timothy put all of his books from his white book case on the living room floor. “Mama I’m reading all the books. All the books mama!” I said okay and continued reviewing emails for my #YouVersion volunteer support work. About 15 minutes later, I left the office/bedroom and asked Timothy to bring me the books so that I can organize them. At first he started bringing them, one at a time. Then I told him to bring as many as he can so that I can organize all of them.
He burst out in tears. He didn’t want me to hold him or hear my best explanation of what organize mean. Perhaps in his almost 3 year old mind– I was taking away his books preventing him from reading them all.
“Mama I don’t want you to regonise them I want to read them. I want to talk to daddy!”
I wanted to cry with him but laugh at the same time. My #sweetsweet was having a #meltdown.
I called Daddy Deon (thank you Jesus that somehow electricians are considered essential workers amidst this #COVID-19 shut down). He asked Timothy what was wrong to which Timothy muffled that mommy is regonising his books but he wanted to read them and mommy is taking them away.
I explained to Deon what was really happening. “Do you feel better Timothy?” Whiping his tears, “yes I feel better.”
We said goodbye to DaddyDeon then he brought me more books. Now that he had stopped crying I showed him how we can put all of the pop-up books together, all of the books about Jesus together and so forth. I showed him where they will be on the bookcase. We talked about this being his own library and that after he reads a book, he needs to return that book where it was on the shelf.
Breathe. Just another day at home with a healthy, happy and intelligent toddler!
